Better Grills Rating: 4.3

Delonghi BG24 Perfecto indoor electric grill

In the colder months of the year, it is no fun to use any outdoor grill and sometimes it is not allowed to use a grill if you live in an apartment building.

Grill surface and temperature

One of the most important things you need to know about any indoor grill is of course the amount of space you have for cooking and if the temperature is high or low enough to let it do what you want it to do.

The Delonghi BG24 Perfecto can reach up to 450 degrees on its highest setting, and that is about what better quality indoor electric grill can reach.

The lower setting is for slower cooking after searing, and even to heat up meat you cooked already or to keep it warm.

The effective cooking surface is 14.5 x 10.5 inches. That looks small if you would apply the rule of thumb that you need about 70 square inches per person, but that is for cooking a complete meal including vegetables.

This size is perfect for grilling meat or vegetables for 4 people, but not all at the same time.

This grill surface of about 160 square inch surface will allow you to grill meat for a family of four with no problem. You can grill 4 large steaks on it at the same time, or even 6 hamburgers, and still have room to move them around.

Cleaning

We all like to cook and grill, but cleaning is not one of my favorite things to do that is why I paid extra attention to how easy it is to clean this grill.

What I found out is that if you take out the temperature controller it is possible to put the whole grill in the dishwasher. It is, however, better to remove the drip tray first and clean that by hand to get all the drippings off first of course.

I read on another site that the hot water in combination with the dish detergent in the dishwasher can deteriorate the non-stick surface. The manual only talks about cleaning and washing by hand although it also mentioned that it’s dishwasher safe.

Doing some research before you decide to use the dishwasher is my advice.

Most people clean the whole thing by hand and claim that it is a breeze to do with a damp cloth.

The non-stick grill surface is very easy to clean like most non-stick surfaces.
Just make sure to let it cool off completely before cleaning to avoid burning your hands.

Dimensions

21.8 x 14.4 x 5.5 inches are the outside measurements and the grill surface is 14.5 x 10.5 inches.
This creates a total of a little over 150 square inches of grill space.

Features of the Delonghi BG24 Perfecto Indoor Grill

The Delonghi BG24 Perfecto had a 1500 watts element that is placed about 2 inches under the grill surface.
The element cycles on and off during cooking to maintain the temperature. That also means that the temperature will fluctuate a little of course, because the element cools off and heats up again during this cycle.

The maximum temperature that can be reached at setting 5 is 450 degrees which I read several times. There are no temperature settings on the grill. Just a 1 to 5 scale.

The heat is pretty even over the total cooking area and that is a big pro in my opinion. No need to find the hot and cold spots that many other grills have.

The lid can be used for flatter pieces of meat because the distance between the grill surface and the lid is only about an inch and a half. Most of the time you will use it as an open grill, so I personally see this not as a big problem.

Cord length is also something that can be important to know in my opinion. Since that decides where you can use it and how far away from an outlet. The cord is 42 inches long and the plug is a regular 2-prong plug.

The grill plate is removable and that makes it easy to clean that separately or put that one just in the dishwasher. Read my section about cleaning if you have more questions about cleaning the grill.

The removable drip tray is, in my opinion, a must. There will be drippings that have to be cleaned out.
A tip I found is to line it with aluminum foil for easy cleaning. You can also add water or, like someone mentioned, beer to add some moisture to your meat.
I could not find any complaints about the flare-ups we always encounter on our charcoal and gas grills outdoors.

Although I found people who added wood chips to the grill I think this will make more smoke and I don’t know if that is something I would like inside.

Pre-heating is very easy. Turn it up to 5 and wait till the light goes off. This means that it has reached its maximum temperature. From my experience, I would suggest waiting until it cycled off a few times. The temperature controller looks at the temperature of the element and not at the grill surface. since you want the grill surface to be hot it is better to give it a little more time.

Accessories

There are no accessories available for the grill itself.
You can order some skewers to make kebabs or even marshmallows.
I like to use a handheld digital thermometer and we reviewed them here.

Customer ratings for the Delonghi BG24 Perfecto

I have done a lot of reading and comparing this Delonghi BG24 Perfecto Indoor electric grill with other brands and even some in higher price ranges. I think that the average consumer and customer ratings for this grill are a pretty good reflection of what I think of it. You can see my rating at the top of this review.

Price and our opinion of the Delonghi BG24 Indoor Grill

The price of the Delonghi indoor BG24 is very reasonable compared to the quality and what you get for it.

Overall spoken it is a very good quality electric indoor grill and without the occasional lemon, there are not many complaints about the grill.
It does what it is made for and cooks some great meat, fish, and vegetables.

The cleaning also does not give any problems and is not time-consuming either.

The die-cast aluminum and non-stick grill surface are holding out very well. It is still advised not to use metal on the surface to prevent scratching and damage since this is related to health issues.

This is an indoor grill with a high 1500 Watts element. If you are cooking for a family of four this is a great choice. If your family is smaller or you cook for just one person I would recommend a smaller indoor grill.

For the best use, I like to oil the grill with some oil before turning it on.

I have read on a consumer forum that this is the best way to protect the non-stick Teflon coating from deteriorating and chipping.

The second best thing is not to put it in the dishwasher but wash it by hand and try not to scratch it.
