The first time I saw the Camp Chef Pursuit was at a tailgate party hosted by my friend. And I was curious to find out more about the grill. My friend, explained to me his experience using this grill, and it was inevitable to do a Camp Chef Pursuit review.
Here you will find out the unique features of this Camp Chef Portable pellet grill.
Stay tuned to find out more about the camp chef pursuit.
Portable Design
The Camp Chef Pursuit is a nice portable pellet grill and ideal if you love grilling while going for a trip or any outdoor get-together. However, it is still fully usable in your backyard or your patio as a fixed grill.
Grill surface and weight
The grill has an overall weight of 82 pounds and a total rack area of 501 Square inches. The grill surface is divided into a 253 square inches main area and a 248 square inches upper rack. These features make the camp chef pursuit one of the best lightweight grills for RVing, camping, and tailgate parties.
PID and Smoke Control
Today almost all pellet grills come with PID controllers, and the Camp Chef Pursuit is no exception. The PID controllers produce a more consistent temperature in all conditions. The PID controller enables consistent cooking results.
The Camp Chef Pursuit delivers efficient fuel consumption. With more efficient fuel consumption, however, you get less smoke as the PID controller is balancing fuel.
Because of the less smoke, the Camp Chef Pursuit features smoke controls, a beneficial feature for all pellet grill owners since one of the most heard complaints is a lack of smoke taste in using pellet grills
The smoke control feature lets you customize the amount of smoke incorporated into your meal.
Convenience and Ease of Use
The Camp Chef Pursuit is just like any Camp Chef wood pellet grill delivering an easy grilling experience.
There are a few features that stand out, however.
Adjustable and foldable legs
First, it comes with push-button foldable legs, which means convenience for storage. However, this is almost a must for a portable pellet grill in my opinion.
you can collapse the pursuit’s legs and fit them into your car and RV when on any outing.
One of the other grill features I have not seen on any other brand is the grill leg levelers. They are allowing you to level out the grill on uneven surfaces quickly. When grilling at a campsite and the ground is uneven, you can simply level out the grill surface by adjusting the leg levelers located beneath the unit.
Besides that, the grill comes with an ash cleanout on the side of the grill. You pull the ash cleanout knob and discard it in seconds without too much hustle to remove the residue ashes.
The grill features a handle on the side of the pellet hopper, and it’s fitted with heavy-duty wheels making it easy to move the grill. You grab by the handle and push the grill to your preferred destination.
The grill comes with two probes and dealing probe ports. The probes ensure ease of monitoring the temperatures via the Gen two controllers.
Finally, Camp Chef Pursuit features a heat deflector plate for faster flame boiling. The heat deflector redirects heat rising from the burning embers to cook the food evenly from all directions. Therefore, the grill ensures you can flame broil your grill contents within a matter of seconds.
Grill Safety
The Camp Chef Pursuit features a safety grate at the bottom of the hopper. Therefore, you do not have to worry about the kids getting their hands on the pellets while the grill is running.
In addition, the hopper features a locking clasp, so the pellets can stay in the hopper during transportation.
Slide and Grill
The slide and grill option makes it easy to use the Camp Chef Pursuit for searing. All you do is slide the cover of the firepot and this changes it to direct heat instead of the indirect heat used for smoking.
Comes With Sufficient Cooking Space
While the Camp Chef Pursuit features a smaller compact size, it comes with entire bottom and top grates. The full-sized removable upper grate is a perfect feature for any pellet grill. You can remove the top grate for extra space to fit a whole turkey, four chickens, four rack ribs, or four tri-tips.
Pros and Cons
- Digital controller
- Sturdy wheels
- 10-pound hopper
- 459 square inches grate
- 8 in 1 cooking
- Temp up to 450 degrees
- Not that great for searing
- No WiFi
- No hopper cleanout
- pellets sometimes stuck
The little beast does not come with a chimney. Ideally, a pellet grill with a chimney has better airflow and functions more like a smoker compared to one without a chimney.
However, more pellet grills use the so-called “downdraft” systems to have more smoke enter the meat.
The grill comes with a 10-pound hopper capacity. The standard hopper capacity is 18 pounds for pellet grills. However, we have to keep in mind that the Pursuit is a portable model.
Camp Chef Pursuit Review – My Opinion
If you love backcountry back patio or RV-style grilling, you will find so much joy in the Camp Chef Pursuit. The portable grill features a compact design for easier handling. It comes with foldable legs, giving you an easy-to-transport experience.
Besides, the pellet grill features up to 501 Square inches of cook space and a convenient 10-pound hopper capacity. When it comes to ease of use and cleaning, the camp chef pursuit has a pullout ash cup so that you can remove and discard ashes in minutes.
